Product Questions

Yes.

As you would expect, our products meet or exceed food safety testing. All our products are tested and must pass independent international laboratory testing before we can label our products ’food safe.’

Silicone, yes.

Bamboo no. Our products are hand-wash only and not suitable for the microwave as the extreme heat can reduce the lifetime of your product.

To some this is a major turn off. But here are a few reasons why we don’t like to use the microwave for children’s food

  1. Nutrients: There is evidence that microwaves reduce nutrients in food. Any cooking will actually change the nutrients in food in some way, though low and slow cooking seems to preserve the most nutrients while faster methods of cooking (microwave being the fastest) destroy more nutrients.
  2. Taste: Half of the reason we converted to real food is the taste, and this is also half the reason that we stopped using a microwave. In my opinion, food cooked or reheated in the microwave does not taste as good!
  3. Chemical leakage: Most people use plastic containers or plates to heat up food. Even plastic that has a microwave-safe symbol on it could become problematic over time. The more the plastic has been used and scratched, the more likely it is to leak harmful chemicals into the food.

No.

We do not compromise on the safety of eco-friendly nature of our products. Melamine, a type of plastic resin, serves as a lightweight and durable alternative to fragile dish-ware. Unlike glass or porcelain dishes, however, melamine plates shouldn’t be used in the microwave. A microwave could damage the melamine or cause chemicals to leach into the food.

While the chemical composition of melamine makes it fire- and heat-resistant, it’s not meant to be heated to high temperatures, especially while containing foods or beverages. Putting melamine in the microwave could result in chemicals transferring from the plate into the food; the more acidic the food and the higher the temperature, the greater the amount of melamine that transfers into the food.

While melamine in very small quantities may not be cause for concern, regularly eating foods contaminated with melamine increases the chances of several several illnesses.

No.

All of the materials used in the production of our products are considered ’zero toxic’. In other words, they contain no toxic air contaminants or hazardous air pollutants of any kind.

Your Naaroo products are designed to last a lifetime, but much like any other product made from nature, like bamboo products, it does require your care.

Handle with care

Probably an obvious one, but yes, unfortunately, our bamboo products are not immune to heavy falls or repeated knocks, this will cause cracks, splits or scuff the bowls and may render them unsafe to use.

Extend the lifetime: Oiling your bamboo products keeps the wood supple and moisturised.

Think of it as your skin: the more it’s exposed to the elements (water), the more it becomes scaly and dry, eventually leading to cracking and splitting.

A generous application of oil conditions the wood, and repeated application saturates the layers, keeping the wood resilient and providing a natural lustre.

Washing and storing:

Our bamboo products are hand-wash only and not suitable for the dishwasher or microwave. The good news is bamboo is naturally antibacterial and microbial so warm soapy water is all you need.

When washing please be sure to remove the silicone ring when drying so that the product can be dried in full. Much like any other natural product exposed to the elements of water and air over an extended time, you do not want to encourage mildew by leaving your products wet or soaked for prolonged periods.

How to oil and maintain your Naaroo bamboo products in only 5 Minutes a Month.

Follow these tips and you’ll have a wonderful range of bamboo products that will last you for ages!

  1. Oil when they are clean: You want your bamboo bowls, plates and spoons to be as clean as possible and thoroughly dry.
  2. Apply the oil: Using a clean, soft cloth or paper towel, apply the oil in an even layer over the bamboo (We recommend coconut oil, almond oil, walnut oil, carnauba wax or Linseed oil).
  3. Let it soak in: Leave the oil to soak in, overnight if possible, or for at least a few hours.
  4. Remove the excess: Using a dry, clean cloth or paper towel, buff off any remaining oil so that the bamboo does not feel damp or sticky.

Why do it?

The idea of being 100% plastic free really appeals to us, particularly when it comes to children’s products

Like bamboo, silicone is one of the most desirable materials (besides glass) for use when feeding children. You may sometimes notice a distinct smell and these smells that sometimes occur are actually the result of food oils and washing detergents clinging to one another, it is not the silicone material itself. This is because there are no chemicals added into the formula to make the silicone rigid.

There are several methods to reduce and remove the smell:

1. Lemon Juice is a good solution to use when washing the silicone (not necessary all the time as not all foods will cause the silicone to smell  – but if it does, washing with lemon greatly helps and it is safe).

2. Baking soda is another product to use. You can wash the silicone product with it when smells are noticed.

3. Boiling the silicone for 5 minutes after cleaning will also eliminate the smell.

4. Baking in the oven for 2 hours at 200F/93C will eliminate the smell.

Although all our silicone are dishwasher safe, dishwasher detergent can sometimes leave a smell.  We recommend using washing up liquids that do not contain fragrances or additives, this also helps to reduce the incidence of smells.

The silicone grip on our bowls and plates do not loose suction over time. However, there have been occasions where customers report that they feel the suction grip has lost power.

We spent a great deal of time researching this and learned that sometimes oil from dish soaps and washing liquids can stick to the surface of the silicone causing them to loose suction with a surface.

To remove the soapy oil rub a cut lemon or lime all over the silicone and let it sit for 10mins. Then rinse it off with hot water. It doesn’t have to be a brand new, freshly cut fruit either. A half used or squeezed one will do.

We make every effort to provide our customers with products that look the same as the images displayed on our website pages. However please keep in mind that photographs have a difficult time showing exact colors and that the actual color of a product may vary slightly from what is shown in one of our website images. We work hard to update our website descriptions and images as soon as we aware of noticeable variations in our products that customers may find unacceptable.

The bamboo that we use for our dinnerware varies in age, colour, texture and grain. This means that sometimes the lasered details on our products may at times appear much darker or lighter than the product images we have on our website. However, we make every effort to provide our customers with products that look the same as the images displayed on our website.

This is not due to fading or even a fault with the product, it is purely because of the way that the bamboo has absorbed the lasering of the details. Thank you for understanding.

Ouch!

If you have received a damaged or incorrect item, contact our customer support team at info@naaroo.se with a photo of the damage, or the incorrectly shipped product, as well as your order number and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Our suction plates adhere best to smooth, non-porous surfaces such as plastic, tile, glass, fibreglass or metal. High chairs or wooden surfaces that are textured, porous or have slight curves will make it difficult to achieve lasting suction power.

To ensure a firm bond, surfaces should be totally free of dirt and soap film before attaching the plate.

The suction ring should be completely flush to the base of the bowl or plate, to prevent air suction loss, causing the plate to rise.

**Note* – Not compatible with Stokke Tripp Trapp since the highchair surface is slightly textured.

After about 3 months worth of diligence and research, we chose to work with a specific factory in a small village in southern China, which grows organic bamboo. We looked at the process, the people and were satisfied that we had chosen a highly reliable company where bamboo cultivating provides jobs and opportunities for families who live there.
